Why are they called “Potato” Semi?

Potato Semi manufactures semiconductors and computer “chips.”

“Potato chips are the most popular chips in the world because they’re high volume, affordable, and taste great. Everybody likes to eat them, everyone buys them, and this is exactly our goal.

Potato Semi is an IC design house that specializes in making chips—computer chips! We’d like to make our chips as popular and affordable as potato chips. All computers and electronics like our chips’ taste and people love them as well.”

What is a Semiconductor?

A semiconductor can be defined as “any of a class of solids…whose electrical conductivity is between that of a conductor and that of an insulator in being nearly as great as that of a metal at high temperatures and nearly absent at low temperatures.”

In other words, a semiconductor can act as a conductor when its temperature rises, and an insulator when its temperature drops. I small silicon chip can be comprised of millions of tiny transistors, which can serve as a control or memory function inside a computer, car, cell phone, and other consumer electronics.
